Burghausen chemical facility – “Nordwerk” project

Project description

Over a four-year construction period, process control system (PCS) cabinets for over 100 plant units were converted and commissioned in the course of the installation of a new PCS as part of.an extensive modernisation of a large Burghausen-based chemical company’s plant. The obsolete PCS, which was built in the 1960s, is being converted to a new Emerson PCS, in order to bring a total of seven production lines up to the current state-of-the-art and prepare them for “Industry 4.0”.

Scope of our services

  • Conversion of 15,000 instruments and control systems
  • Conversion of 14,000 digital inputs and outputs
  • Disassembly and reconnection works alongside continuing production
  • Adjustment of EI&C devices
  • Conversion of all documentation from Ruplan to Comos PT
  • Upgrade of PCS from Teleperm M to Emerson
  • 7 production plants, distributed across more than 20 buildings, corresponding to approximately 100 subsystems
  • Carrying out signal reconnection and loop checking with two teams working simultaneously
  • Continuous construction over a 4-year period

General electrical engineering:

  • Cable support systems
  • Cable laying
  • Design of redundant bus systems
  • All field electrical installations in explosion-proof design
  • Supply and installation of PCS cabinets, switch cabinets and terminal boards
  • Refurbishment of lighting system
  • Electrical installation of control and equipment rooms
  • Fire protection measures

Instrumentation and control technology/process control system:

  • Complete field assembly of all instrumentation and control devices, Ex-e and Ex-i rated
  • Pulse line piping
  • Loop checking/commissioning
  • Safety engineering:
  • Functional safety management (SIL)
  • Emergency shut-down scheme
  • Installation of safety shut-down devices
