GLOBALFOUNDRIES wafer production site, Dresden

Project description

AEK was able to offer its complete range of electrical engineering and installation services, completing complex electrical and EI&C projects, each worth hundreds of millions of euros, at GLOBALFOUNDRIES' most important wafer production site in Dresden: With around 2,600 highly-qualified engineers, technicians and specialists, and an investment volume of well over 6 billion US dollars to date, GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ site in Dresden is the company’s main facility for 300 mm wafers.

For more than a decade, the Dresden location has been the centre for the manufacture of AMD microprocessors, first as part of the AMD Group, then since 2009 as part of GLOBALFOUNDRIES, a joint venture between AMD and the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC), Abu Dhabi. The new construction and fitting out of a 10,000 m2 clean room at the GLOBALFOUNDRIES “Fab 1” site, which increased the total capacity to 80,000 wafer starts per month by the end of 2012, involved an investment of around €1.3 billion and created several hundred new jobs.
